Am boiling. I slept and woke up and am going to sleep again. Hardly. And the Mumbai gun fire continues. What the hell is happening to my country? Why are we like this? I'm at a loss. I dunno what I should do to stop this. Bring my children up to tell them that religion does not matter. Well, atleast that is what I thought my generation believed. But when I look at those gunmen who seem to be as old as me, I wonder what they know and believe in. Did they think twice about killing themselves so violently, forget taking over one whole city and leaving all of us looking on? Sitting here in Atlanta, I feel dumb, and dumbfounded about what my role could be, could have been in this whole terrorist saga? Am I responsible in any way?

Of course, I am. I did not f****** vote last time. Or did I? And it did not make a single difference. I cannot even think straight in my anger. What have I done to make a difference in anyone's life? Cried and raved and ranted for about an hour after every attack like this? Sometimes, not even that.

I blame everyone else for this 'incident.' The accused Jihadis, the MNS, Bal Thackeray and his clan for whom the attacks on Mumbai are not an attack on our culture or our social fabric. We only need to paint nude goddesses. It does not matter if we shoot people randomly and target particular 'other' religions. If I were the PM, my action plan'd be for the next 15 days -

- Ban MNS and jail Bal Thackeray and anyone who supports him. Screw freedom of speech. Not needed during an emergency situation.

- Shut the useless Parliament and CNN IBN for these 15 days. Take action on my own. I do not need money-suckers to tell me if I should send 20 year old men to fight bloody terrorists

- Change the judicial process to make sure that after the bloody terrorist talks, shoot him dead, instead of keeping him hoping that someone will be taken hostage and he can be left free if and when some Westerner is taken hostage. Or even better, leave them in the Parliament and all the politicians. Don't send in the NSG, or the army or the police. Really. Just leave them. Let's see who kills whom and who survives this- The blood and money suckers or the religious extremists.

- Change the whole idea of Presidential pardon. Going forward, 10 terrorists in Tihar jail will be shot mercilessly. That is what celebrating a national holiday means, dammit!

- Vote. Make people vote. All of us should not just talk anymore. We should vote. Take that first step. Tell them that we are here, watching their every single step.

- Stop worrying about how cumbersome the security process is. I'd rather walk nude through the security check-in than being dead in a couple of hours.

- The moment an American President promises something against the so-called terrorists, think and start monitoring the bloody security situation in the country. Because like Bush showed us, even the dumbest of US politicians do what they say.

- When Pakistan extends a friendly hand with or without an administration, take it in one hand but be careful about their other hand, dammit!

I just cannot think anymore. Frankly. I do not care if anyone in the comments section tries to tell me that I'm a biased Indian. I'm tired of being a tolerant Indian. Its Thanksgiving, so thank me for being tolerant for this long.

Its all coming back to us again and again, but dont know when our govt REACT to it. We lost thousands of people in this year various terrorsit attacks though the Mumbai one stands above all others. But why are we not responding like other nations who straongly who against terrorism.

a lot of people had the same thoughts on their mind......
"WHERE THE F%## IS RAJ THACKERY AND HIS MIGHTY SENA????????"
all the noise he made, but couldn't do shit at this moment......!! it would have been cruel, but should have asked him to send his sena into the Taj and Oberoi to fight the so called non-marathi people who had caused havoc in bombay. he can only target the poor bihari and bimari, who cant fight back

I really really hope Shiv Sena and MNS being quiet doesn't mean something more dangerous. I don't want any more damage in Bombay.

Ok - stimulaing as your thoughts are, you are talking like L.K. Advani. In fact, you are echoing every word that the BJP has been senselessly mouthing over the last, god knows how many years.

Terrorism is a public policy. It cannot go away, and wishful thinking of what one would do as PM is best left to school children.

The fact is, the social fabric is in tatters. India was envisioned as a socialist, democratic and secular republic. We are far from it not because of what Raj Thackeray does, but rather of the thought processes that is festered in the youth of the country (like yourself here). What is secularism to you? What is democracy? What is socialism? Ever thought of all that?

The hate that is pouring out is pitiable. Hating the violence is one thing - but what is dangerous is the hatred that is pouring out vis-a-vis a single entity.

Anyway, random thoughts from a random stranger. Do feel free to ignore, but cast a thought. Anger is not the solution here. Anger can never be the solution.

Cheers.

Oh, and pardon me for pointing this out - isn't your post self contradictory? You didn't vote last time, but as a PM you would force everyone to vote?

Interesting.

@drag.on.fly.or.not: I know, I know :(

@devil incarnate: hopefully this one will wake us up.

@Coconut chutney: I swear. We need a year of dictator rule and set things right.

@Buddy: That is a good idea! Really! But then the educated class hardly uses ration card, do they? And the poorer sections are bribed. Sigh.

@Mac: I'm hoping they are not quiet for a reason. Read Gradwolf's comment here.

@Gradwolf: That is so true. I did not think of that.

@ Hairy Snail: Mebbe that is what I'm? ;) Kidding. I know this post was a violent, emotional post. I just wrote stuff down. And I agree with you on most points mentioned here.

And about all the -isms you mentioned, I'd just mention to you that I have been one of the most tolerant people. At the risk of sounding immodest, that is. Again, this post is a very emotional post and does not make 'sense' as such. I understand the whole scenario with our youth, including some of us and why people like me are so angry. Its a long debate and a cyclical one. However, I do think anger is the solution. It just needs to be channelized. Thanks again.

The day we eradicate islam and kill every single fucking muslim and make India just "Hindus"tan, we will be better off.

@ Smriti: I do not think so. I think we can live together very happily. Do you have a solution for Hindu extremists too?

ah here is where the action is!
*notes down that angry posts generate more interest*

burried below all that anger spewing I still manage to see a point. My only 2 paisa would be to take a tough stance, tighten security and go after these guys.

You gotta bite the bullet some time or the other, just like the US went after afghanistan...

happened to come here from qfi -nice blog but ban shiv sena and mns? thats really rubbish. theyre the only things keeping a check on the gazillion muslim extremist "organizations" out there. we need more hindu extremists in fact to tilt the balance which is heavily weighed in their(muslim) favor.

Nandini Vishwanath said...

Aparna: Thanks! When I said ban MNS or Shiv Sena, that is exactly what I meant. No more extremism from anyone. Its not like Hindu extremists are able to stop these terror attacks, are they? If not, ignite them! The eye for eye theory could go on forever until no one's left to kill.

Nandini Vishwanath said...

@ Max: We need more people like you :) Period.

You talk about shutting down the parliament and then ask people to vote? Oxymoron isn't it? And yes, I'm with you on banning MNS, SS, CNN-IBN and othe rest of the cabal!Well, what we need right now is an agency a la NSA in the US. More security. A war with Pakistan isn't going to answer anything nor is it going to give us any peace of mind. Worse still, it will lead to more blood shed. Which I'm sure none of us wants.

Nandini Vishwanath said...

@ Stith: I know its contradicting. Remember I'm taking over the country for 15 days only? :)

But ya, it was an angry post kada? So, all the confusion, raving and ranting.
